LawMate PV-RC200HD2 - Keyfob Camera Specification

This is the LawMate RC200HD2 Camera System, a 1080p high definition key-fob, and a new 5 megapixel HD sensor

This is the 4th generation key fob from LawMate now offering 1080p high definition capture in addition to 5-megapixel snap-shots and a new Wide Dynamic Range sensor (WDR).

Inside the key fob, DVR is a high-resolution CMOS sensor connected to a digital video recorder.

The really great thing about this device is that you can put it on your own key ring and never worry about it being detected. At the touch of a button, the remote DVR will start up and be ready to record video or take stills photos in just 2 - 3 seconds. This key fob DVR covert camera will vibrate quickly to let you know what it is doing (this feature is switchable).

The video is captured onto the supplied 16gb Micro SD card which will hold around 4 hours of video and several thousand stills photos. Micro SD cards can be used up to 32gb in size.

Unlike a lot of other devices we have seen, the RC200HD2 records at full 1920 x 1080 resolution and at 30fps providing very clear and smooth video as well as excellent sound quality. As with all LawMate covert recording devices, the video is watermarked with a time and date stamp.

To watch the video you have recorded or view the photos you have taken, simply connect the RC200HD2 to any computer using the supplied USB cable. The device will act as a mass storage device (card reader) allowing you to play and watch your videos.

HD Resolution Capability

HD refers to high definition or 720p/1080p resolution, 1080p is known as Full HD. This resolution is a significant step up from 480p which can be seen in the image (on the right).

The first figure (1920) refers to horizontal pixels and the second figure (1080) denotes vertical resolution. The simple difference between HD and SD images is the number of pixels contained in the image

Motion Detection Benefits

Motion detection improves your home security as a device can lay dormant to avoid filling memory cards with wasted still footage and will activate when motion is detected.

Alongside avoiding wasted memory it will also save on energy usage and is more convenient when reviewing footage.

Wide Dynamic Range (WDR)

So what is Wide Dynamic Range? When part of an image is extremely bright but another part is so dark that you can't see any details, that's dynamic range—the difference in lighting. Cameras with wide dynamic range (WDR) have special software that allows them to balance that lighting for one clear image.

H.264 Video Compression

H.264 is a video compression for digital video recorders to use when reducing video file sizes without losing resolution in the captured footage. H.264 standard compresses the footage so that only half the storage space is used however the same video quality is maintained. Advanced Video Coding (AVC) uses Macroblocks to process information in 16x16px blocks.
