Why code property
By simply placing your PostCode on all your valuable property it deters burglars as it makes your items harder to sell on as they can be identified as stolen. It also assists the police in tracing the rightful owner, if recovered, therefore enabling the safe return of stolen property to the rightful owner.
Most people are not aware that stolen property is often returned to the thief as no proof of ownership exists. Marked property not only assists the Police in identifying the rightful owner, and therefore returning the goods, but also enables possible conviction of those in possession for burglary, fencing or possession of stolen goods.
Second had shops and pawn shops are encouraged to check property with UV lamps for marks to verify ownership. Police periodically tour car boot sales on the lookout for stolen property. If your valuable items are marked it greatly assists the Police and law enforcement agencies to make arrests and convictions.
Police Forces and Neighbourhood Watch Coordinators across the country recommend that all property is marked to ensure, upon recovery, stolen goods are returned to their rightful owner. Insurance companies also recommend property is marked, they have been known to offer discounts on policies for marked and recorded equipment.
