I recently had the opportunity to review one of these units on behalf of members in my Facebook group Night Vision UK .. View moreI recently had the opportunity to review one of these units on behalf of members in my Facebook group Night Vision UK .. I've seen and used a variety of similar units and build 'spotters' myself.. but.. recording.. hand held.. onboard I.r .. was it too good to be true at this price? The unit feels good in the hand although the 'camcorder' hand strap is ok for carrying it's under the unit when it's used.. that's my only main fault so it's mentioned now.. yes it's cmos instead of our preferred ccd but this is a monocular not on gun kit so it's not as important. Image clarity is good as is the onboard I.r but as always the performance of the unit is greatly enhanced by adding an external source which can be mounted on the inbuilt rail, nice touch. The place I tested it on is a strip field 120m wide at maximum and 500m long. Using its onboard I.r source it had no issues across the field picking out ground roosting birds and several rabbits near their Warren.. I could make out the hedgerow at 500m but there was nothing to see so flicked on the nm800 xsearcher and still nothing but the hedgerow was now a far better image although I don't think I could have identified a quarry at that distance but nothing appeared all night :-( .. The cmos image did sway a.little as expected in comparison to.a ccd board but not that much it caused any issues. Eye shine was definite with onboard I.r at 120m just wished something else appeared further away. Batteries lasted well and recording was easy once I became familiar with the buttons. I haven't uploaded footage online yet but on playback it was good enough quality from the class 10 32mb card I installed. I wear glasses which can be awkward but with and without I could adjust good image focus. I could continue this for quite some time but let's cut to the chase.. there's a few options in this price bracket but for me this is the one. Only feature missing is a nv rangefinder but I have one of those. Is it worth the money? Absolutely yes.. scan an area quickly for eyeshine then change to other equipment for pinpoint accuracy if using for pest control purposes. Carry spare batteries and you'll not be compromised either. Great unit.. great performance for its money. Thank you to all at Sure24 for the chance to review this product for our group members.
